Concrete Services In Des Moines, Iowa
Medina Concrete pours driveways, patios, sidewalks, slabs and garage floors, and tears out and replaces concrete that's cracked, heaving or past patching. Residential and light commercial, quoted in person for free.
Concrete Driveways And Tear-Out Replacements
Medina Concrete installs new concrete driveways and replaces old ones around Des Moines. Most driveway jobs start as a tear-out: the cracked or heaving slab comes out, the base is graded, forms and steel go in, and a new driveway is poured and broom-finished.
What's included
- Break-out and removal of the old driveway
- Base graded so the slab sits solid and sheds water
- Forms set to grade, rebar or wire grid in the slab
- Pour, screed, edge and broom finish for grip in winter
- The apron where the driveway meets the street
Single, double or extended driveways, plus the walk to the door if you want it poured at the same time. We tell you exactly when it's safe to drive on.
Concrete Patios Sized To How You Use The Yard
We pour backyard concrete patios, pads and patio extensions around Des Moines. The size and shape come from how you'll use it: a grill spot, a table, a fire pit or a hot tub pad.
What's included
- Layout walked with you on site, sized to your furniture and traffic
- Excavation and a graded base that drains away from the house
- Forms and steel, then the pour and finish
- Broom finish, or stamped concrete for a decorative surface
Already have a patio that's too small? We can extend it, or tear it out and pour one that fits.
Sidewalks, Front Walks And Custom Walkways
Medina Concrete pours front walks, walkways to the door or around the side of the house, and replaces broken or lifted sidewalk panels in Des Moines. Walks are formed, reinforced and broom-finished so they stay flat and grippy.
What's included
- Removal of broken, lifted or sunken panels
- New walks laid out to the door, the driveway or the backyard
- Forms, base and steel, then the pour and broom finish
- Steps where the walk meets a change in grade
Getting a new driveway? Pouring the front walk in the same job saves a second trip and a second setup.
Shop Floors, Pole-Barn Slabs And Pads
We pour concrete slabs for shops, sheds and pole barns, foundation slabs and equipment pads, for homeowners and light commercial properties around Des Moines. These are the big, flat pours where a level base and good finishing matter most.
What's included
- Site prep and a graded, compacted base
- Forms and reinforcement sized to the slab's use
- Pour, screed and float flat, then finish
- Aprons at overhead doors and along side walls
Building a new pole barn or shed? Bring us in before the pour date so the slab is ready when the building crew is.
Garage Floors And Aprons, New Or Replaced
Medina Concrete pours new garage floors and replaces cracked or sunken ones, along with the apron outside the door. A garage floor is poured flat and finished so the door seals against it and water runs out, not in.
What's included
- Tear-out of the old floor or apron
- Base graded and compacted
- Steel in the slab, then the pour and finish
- Apron tied into the driveway so there's no lip
Replacing the driveway too? Doing the apron and driveway together gives you one continuous, matched surface.
Cracked Or Heaving Concrete, Fixed For Good
When concrete is cracked through, heaving, sunken or spalling, Medina Concrete tears out the damaged section and re-pours it. That includes driveways, walks, patios and concrete steps. If it's past patching, we replace it, and we tell you which one it is.
Signs it's time to replace
- Slabs that have lifted or dropped, leaving trip edges
- Cracks that run all the way through and keep widening
- Surface flaking or pitting after winters of salt and ice
- Water pooling against the house or garage
We also pour new steps and handle concrete removal on its own.

Can I Drive On It Yet?
Pick your pour date. As general guidance, new concrete takes about 24 hours before you walk on it, about 7 days before you drive a car on it, and roughly 28 days to reach full strength.
Cold weather slows curing. We give you exact timing for your pour based on the mix and the forecast.
- Walk on it–

Should I repair or replace my cracked concrete?
If the slab is heaving, sunken, broken into separate pieces or flaking across the surface, patching rarely holds through an Iowa winter, and tearing it out and re-pouring is the fix that lasts. Small, isolated damage can sometimes be handled without replacing the whole slab.
We look at it in person for free and tell you straight which one your concrete needs.
Do you put rebar in driveways and slabs?
Yes. After the forms are set to grade we lay a rebar or wire grid in the slab before the pour. Steel holds the concrete together as it moves through freeze and thaw, which is a big part of why prep decides how long a driveway lasts.
What finish do you use on driveways and sidewalks?
A broom finish. Dragging a broom across the fresh surface leaves fine ridges that give tires and shoes grip in rain, ice and snow. For patios and walkways we also pour stamped concrete if you want a decorative look.
Can you just remove old concrete?
Yes. Concrete removal is one of our services, whether it is an old driveway, a patio, steps or a slab you want gone. Most of the time we remove and re-pour in the same job.
Do you work in cold or wet weather?
We schedule pours around the weather, because temperature and rain affect how concrete sets. If a forecast is wrong for a pour, we'll tell you and move the date rather than pour into it.
